Semaglutide is a medication that belongs to a class of drugs known as GLP-1 (Glucagon-like Peptide-1) receptor agonists. It is used to treat type 2 diabetes by regulating blood sugar levels. Semaglutide is also FDA-approved for weight loss, indicated as an adjunct to a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity for chronic weight management in adults with an initial body mass index (BMI) of ≥30 kg/m2 (obesity) or ≥27 kg/m2 (overweight) in the presence of at least 1 weight-related comorbid condition (eg, hypertension, type 2 diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia). Semaglutide helps to lower blood sugar levels by stimulating insulin secretion and inhibiting glucagon secretion. Semaglutide reduces appetite, slows down the emptying of the stomach, and increases feelings of fullness. Semaglutide is administered once a week by injection. Lab work that may be needed: Comprehensive Metabolic Panel (CMP), Complete Blood Count (CBC), Lipid Panel, Hemoglobin A1C (HgbA1C), Thyroid (TSH) Sample Dosing Schedule (EXAMPLE ONLY): INJECT 5 UNITS (0.05 ML) SUBCUTANEOUSLY WEEKLY FOR 4 WEEKS THEN INJECT 10 UNITS (0.1 ML) WEEKLY FOR 4 WEEKS THEN 20 UNITS (0.2 ML) WEEKLY FOR 4 WEEKS THEN 35 UNITS (0.35 ML) WEEKLY FOR 4 WEEKS, THEN 50 UNITS (0.5 ML) WEEKLY THEREAFTER. Price includes visit with provider (Nurse Practitioner) and compounded semaglutide delivered to your home (often as quickly as next day).
